Girls’ boarding in Australia is offered by independent, Anglican, Presbyterian, Uniting and Catholic schools. Houses usually sit on the same campus as day students. Ask who sleeps in on Saturday night. That is the real culture, not the prospectus photograph. Also ask how the house handles phones, tutoring and airport runs.

Several “PLC”, “St Catherine’s” and “St Hilda’s” names exist in more than one state. They are different schools. Open the profile that matches the suburb. A crest is not a franchise.

Brothers rarely board on a girls’ campus. Some cities have brother–sister pairs on neighbouring sites. That is two applications, two fee schedules and two houses. Ask both admissions offices. Do not assume a shared leave weekend.

Typical entry is Year 7 or Year 9; a few houses offer other years. There is no national starting age. Confirm the years that still have beds. We do not guarantee a place and we do not publish waitlist scores.

International girls need a CRICOS-registered provider and an approved welfare arrangement if under 18. Homestay is not automatically a house. Verify the code on the official register.

Rural and remote families use girls’ houses so a daughter can stay in one school through the senior years. City houses sell access. Neither is automatically kinder. Staffing after lights-out is the question.

A girls’ house inside a large day school can be socially rich and residentially quiet. Day girls go home. Boarders remain. Ask for weekend numbers by year level. Ask how birthdays, illness and airport delays are staffed when the day campus is empty.

National names hide local policy. One PLC’s boarding years are not another’s. One St Hilda’s leave rule is not another’s. Open the suburb. If two cards share a crest style, treat them as strangers until the handbooks say otherwise.

Single-sex pastoral language in a prospectus is not a staffing ratio. Ask who sleeps in the house, what qualifications they hold, and how medical after-hours care works. Those answers belong to the school, not to this pathway page.

Scholarships for girls include academic, music, sport and means-tested awards, plus some external trusts. Many still leave boarding payable. Read the instrument. Do not let a headline “scholarship school” become a budget.

Ask how conflict between boarders is handled and how often senior girls leave on weekends. Those answers age better than a scholarship headline.

Rural daughters in city houses need a transfer plan that survives exam blocks and illness. Ask who books flights, who holds passports, and what happens if a parent cannot travel. City convenience is not automatic independence.

Health and phones are policy, not vibe. Ask for the written rules. This site will not invent a national girls’ house standard because one famous campus photographs well.
