How we work

Editorial policy

How we research, write, source and update every guide and school profile on this site.

Boarding Schools Australia publishes independent, research-only information for families. We use primary sources, do not invent figures, do not rank schools, do not accept payment for placement, and date every guide so readers know when it was last reviewed.

Our rule

If a fact changes year to year — fees, places, rates, deadlines — we tell you where to verify it rather than printing a number that may be wrong.

Who writes our content

Guides and profiles are written and maintained by the Boarding Schools Australia editorial team. We are not a school, an education agent or an enrolment service, and we do not speak for any school. Where a guide draws on a specialist area — such as government assistance or student visas — we summarise the official source and link to it, rather than offering advice.

How we research

  • Primary sources first. School profiles are based on information published by the schools themselves. Guides on government programmes are based on the relevant government pages, such as Services Australia, the Department of Home Affairs and the CRICOS register.
  • Recognised organisations. We refer to bodies such as the Australian Boarding Schools Association and the Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association of Australia for context.
  • Search research. We look at the questions families actually ask — including common search questions — to decide what to cover, but we answer them from primary sources.

What we will not publish

  • invented statistics, fee figures, rankings or "best school" claims
  • quotes attributed to people we have not spoken to
  • payment rates or thresholds that may be out of date — we link to the official page instead
  • medical, legal, financial or migration advice

How we choose what to cover

We start with the questions families actually ask: how boarding works day to day, how fees are structured, what pastoral care looks like, how scholarships and international enrolment work, and how to compare schools fairly. A topic earns a page when we can answer it more clearly than a quick search can, with links to the schools and government bodies responsible for the facts.

Extra care because this is about children

Choosing a boarding school is a significant decision about a child's wellbeing and education. On these pages we summarise official sources, such as school websites, state education regulators and the Australian Government's international student framework, and we link to them. We do not give personal advice. We never publish invented fees, ATAR results, rankings, scholarship values, testimonials or claims about a school's culture that we cannot trace to a source. Before you decide, speak with the school, visit if you can, and check the registration and child safety information published by the relevant state authority.

How a page is put together

Each guide and profile follows the same process. We outline the questions it must answer, research each answer from primary sources and note those sources. We draft in plain Australian English, then check every factual claim against its source. Before publishing, we check internal links, headings, page speed and mobile layout.

Images

We use photographs we have the right to publish. Images illustrate a topic. They do not show a particular school unless the caption says so.

Accessibility

We write descriptive headings, add alternative text to meaningful images and keep pages readable on small screens. If something is hard to use with assistive technology, please tell us.

Dates and updates

Every guide shows the date it was published and, where relevant, when it was last updated. We review guides when official information changes and when readers report issues. School-specific details — boarding years, fees, places, deadlines — can change at any time, so every profile asks families to confirm with the school.

Corrections

If you find an error, please contact us with the page address, the correction and, ideally, a link to a primary source. We review every report and update pages where needed.

Independence

We do not accept payment for listings, placement or coverage. Trademarks, logos and school names belong to their respective owners, and their appearance on this site does not imply endorsement either way.

Questions

What parents always ask

Direct answers first — then the detail you can take to a school tour.

No. Listings and guides are editorial. We do not accept payment for placement, ranking or favourable coverage.
