Queensland boarding mixes Brisbane river-city colleges with Ipswich, the Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Rockhampton, Townsville and Charters Towers. Many Queensland boarders are rural or interstate. Airport transfers and mid-term exeats are operational questions, not footnotes. Brisbane Airport is convenient for inner-city houses; regional campuses need their own plan.

How do you shortlist Queensland without a “best of Brisbane” article? Decide whether the family needs a river-city campus, an SEQ house, or a regional town that already knows how to board. Charters Towers and Townsville exist because north Queensland distance is real. A Gold Coast house is not a Toowoomba house. Travel first.

Grammar schools, Anglican colleges, PMSA campuses and Catholic Sacred Heart houses all appear in this hub. Affiliation predicts chapel life more reliably than it predicts pastoral care. Still ask about house staffing after 9pm, phone rules, and who meets the aircraft at term start.

Girls’, boys’ and co-ed pathways all operate in Queensland. Historic boys’ colleges remain a distinct search; girls’ houses in Brisbane, Toowoomba and Townsville are separate enrolments; regional co-ed is common. Confirm the current gender mix. Third-party lists lag.

Is Queensland boarding cheaper than Sydney? Sometimes, especially in regional towns — and sometimes not, once you add flights and a full-board line. This site will not invent a comparison table. Request current schedules and compare the same year level and the same boarding mode.

Scholarships, rural schemes and some Indigenous education programmes sit beside school awards. Eligibility is specific. We do not publish a guessed list of dollar values. Start with the school and with publicly listed programmes.

International enrolment in Queensland still starts with CRICOS. A directory card is not a visa pathway. Under-18 welfare, OSHC and the overseas fee schedule belong to the provider. Use Study Australia and the official register.

Queensland distance is not a marketing motif. Families from the west, the north and the islands use boarding so a child can stay in one school through the senior years. A Brisbane river college that assumes a local grandma for Saturday sport is a mismatch for that household even if the academic brand is famous. Start with the transfer plan.

SEQ is its own band: Ipswich and the Gold Coast are not “almost Brisbane” in boarding terms. Different airports, different weekend cultures, different official websites. Toowoomba sits on a range and a different weather pattern. North and central Queensland houses exist because flying to Brisbane every exeat is not always the plan.

Ask Queensland admissions the operational questions early: who meets the aircraft, what happens if a connection fails, how mid-term exeats are staffed, and whether weekly board is even offered. A rural full-board house and a city weekday house should never share a spreadsheet row labelled “QLD boarding”.

A school music award and a government-linked rural scheme have different closing dates and different refund rules if you leave the house. This directory administers neither.
